ABOUT THE AUTHOR
CAROL ELLIS was born in 1949 in Nelson County, Virginia. Born to an American GI and a German war bride, they lived on a hardscrabble, self-sufficient farm. The family had three children by the time Carol was three years old. Needless to say, Carol had the total run of the farm by age three. Great-aunts, uncles, and grandparents were close.
Her love for black people began when she observed the differences. It is those differences that made Carol question why they were treated differently from whites.
